After what has seemed liked the most rescheduled jam ever, the Churchdown skate jam finally was able to be held on Sunday 29th June. The sun was shinning, amazing BBQ food and some awesome riding from both the skaters and BMXers of all ages!

The turnout compared to the first opening jam was a little less however it didn’t stop some of the riders throwing themselves into and onto that warm hard concrete. There’s just something about these younger skateboarders who as soon as they know they can win some prizes for trying the hardest tricks, they just try and try again, no matter if they keep slamming hard!

I must say the way some of them skated the bowl, it gave some of the older skaters a run for their money. Not everyone is doing inverts in the deep end of the bowl, especially not when it’s almost 6 times the size of you.

The BMXers went for a more friendly 1 minute run each for their comp to win a place at NASS. The idea of 10 of the best riders from around Gloucestershire throwing tailwhips and backflips in a jam format might of resulted in quite a few cuts and injury’s! Still the individual runs were amazing as it gave each rider a chance to show what they could do having the whole park to just them.

Transferring between the bowl section into the street and going up and over the rail from flat. Although some people find the park a little bit restricting so decided to hop out of the park itself! However this then resulted in a snapped pedal but no worries as some bright pink ones were thrown Tom’s way after!

When it was time for the over 16 skateboarders it was getting quite late in the day, which after the heat might of meant a few of them had lost the hype, however that wasn’t the case. In fact it was more the sun had helped to up their game and bring out some crazy skating. The hip within the bowl saw some serious action and almost a few collisions! Major “threading the needle” between skaters.

The same as the younger skaters, when it was time to hit the street section, the wave and the big quarter were the main area where the action was taking place! Boards flying every whilst skaters such as Ashley and Jake from Cheltenham were feeding off each others tries at 360 flips, hardflips and big airs.

Overall some major ridering and a good turn out nevertheless after the countless times the jam was put back. Congrats to those who made it through into the NASS park, looks like I’ll be seeing you there…..camera in hand to capture the action!

Many thanks to all the sponsors for the prizes and the team from Maverick for building and putting on another super skate jam. Until next year!
